”En af læsningens første opgaver (den allerførste burde vel være at give sig tid til at have det sjovt med teksten) må være at forholde sig ikke bare til, at den her tekst, man sidder med, har et eller andet forlæg, men hvilket forhold den har til det. Satirisk? Kritisk? Analytisk? Dokumenterende? Musealt?”Jeg tænker så, at det er mærkeligt at dele det op på den måde – det er også mærkeligt at tænke læsningen som en opgave, men det fører for vidt her. Meningen er vel, at det skal være sjovt netop at forholde sig til forvridningen og forskydningen af interteksten. At det skal give et umiddelbart mentalt kick eller hvordan man nu vil formulere det. Og hvis det ikke gør det, så fungerer teksten ikke, i al fald ikke som konceptuelt greb. Det kan så være, at teksten fungerer fordi der er træk ved kildeteksten som er æstetisk og kognitivt interessante, måske også træk, der bliver synlige via de postproduktive greb. Det er vel det, Frank Leibovici arbejder med i sine kinesiske portrætter, at synliggøre strukturer gennem en art reduktion af enorme tekstmængder – lidt ligesom en filmtrailer, der viser og forvrider en films indhold på to minutter. Under alle omstændigheder fungerer den type behag i læsningens øjeblik, de er en del af læsningens fænomenologi, også selvom de så kan vække til yderligere refleksion.
